Collection: Raymond Callebaut (Belgium, 1932-1982?)
Raymond Callebaut (born 1932, Belgium-1982?) was a Belgian-born painter whose career developed across Europe, North America, and the Caribbean, including a significant period working in Haiti. He studied for seven years at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Mechelen, Belgium, where he was awarded first prize each year. He then continued his training for five years at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp under the directorship of the renowned painter Baron Isidore Opsomer and Professor Miss Zarina of Riga. Recognizing his talent, the city of Antwerp granted Callebaut a scholarship to pursue further studies in Italy. Upon his return, he received support from the Round Table of Belgium, enabling him to spend a year studying major artistic centers throughout France. These formative experiences shaped a disciplined and cosmopolitan artistic vision grounded in classical training and refined technique. Callebaut traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America, painting and exhibiting in Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Haiti, and the United States before eventually settling in Toronto, Canada. During the 1980s, he maintained a studio in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where his work was exhibited and sold at Galerie Georges S. Nader in Haiti. His paintings from this period remain admired for their technical skill and cross-cultural sensibility. Although Raymond Callebaut passed away many years ago, the exact date and place of his death remain undocumented. His works appear occasionally at auction, and a small number remain available through select galleries, making his paintings increasingly scarce on the market. Scroll Down to Make Your Selection (s)!
