Yannick Jean was a Haitian abstract painter, decorator, novelist, and poet born on May 10, 1946, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She sadly passed away in 2000. In her abstract paintings, Jean portrayed the condition of women in Haiti. Although she was raised by well-off parents, she experienced a troubled childhood. Jean was part of a group of intellectuals in Port-au-Prince. In 1968, she participated in the formation of the Kouidor troupe, a theatrical group of exiles in New York, where she contributed to stage set designs. She lived in the United States with her husband, playwright Syto Cavé.
