Description

Bleu de Guérison by Philippe Dodard is a striking acrylic on canvas that explores memory, resilience, and the human condition through bold expressionist forms. Dominated by vivid blues, fiery oranges, and deep blacks, the composition presents layered faces and fragmented figures that move between vulnerability and strength, creating a powerful emotional presence. Dodard’s energetic brushwork and thick impasto surface give the painting a sculptural intensity, while the overlapping figures evoke dialogue, collective memory, and spiritual connection. The work reflects the artist’s celebrated exploration of Haitian identity and contemporary social realities through color, movement, and raw expressive force. A significant example of contemporary Haitian expressionism, Bleu de Guérison is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery.

About this artist

Philippe Dodard (b. 1954, Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a Haitian painter, graphic artist, and multidisciplinary creator known for angular, architectonic compositions that organize space without traditional perspective. Trained at the PotoMitan Art School under Jean-Claude “Tiga” Garoute, Patrick Vilaire, and Frido Casimir, he later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and specialized in graphic design in Bordeaux, France. Dodard’s work blends structure, rhythm, and symbolic abstraction, reflecting his background in graphic design and visual communication. His practice extends beyond painting to include sculpture, ironwork, and jewelry, creating a distinctive modern Haitian aesthetic. His work has been exhibited internationally across Europe and the Americas and has influenced fashion and contemporary art, notably inspiring Donna Karan’s Spring 2012 collection. Today, Dodard’s work is highly sought after for its originality, design clarity, and cross-disciplinary appeal.
