Description

This original oil on canvas by Haitian master Dieudonné Cédor portrays a seated woman resting beside two pails, rendered in harmonious tones of blue and violet. Cédor’s refined geometry, sculptural treatment of the figure, and balanced color palette reveal his mastery of modernist form and emotional expression. The quiet strength of the subject and the painter’s sensitive handling of light make Seated Woman with Pail a timeless meditation on human resilience and dignity. Dieudonné Cédor was a central figure in postwar Haitian modern art. Trained at the Centre d’Art and known for his contributions to the evolution of Haitian painting, Cédor blended realism and abstraction to express the dignity of everyday life. His works have been exhibited internationally and remain sought after for their lyrical balance of structure, emotion, and color. This piece originates from the private collection of the Nader family in the Dominican Republic, part of one of the most significant legacies in Haitian art collecting.
