About this artist
Fritz Louizor (Haitian, 1949–1984) was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and became one of the most talented impressionist painters of his generation. The younger brother of the renowned artist Ernst Louizor, Fritz shared a lifelong dedication to portraying the vibrancy of Haitian life through light, color, and texture. After attending Lycée Toussaint Louverture High School, Louizor pursued his passion for art at the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s most influential art institution. He later studied and worked alongside his brother, developing a refined impressionist style characterized by palette knife techniques, rich impasto, and radiant tonal harmony. Fritz Louizor’s paintings often depict rural and urban scenes filled with movement and atmosphere—marketplaces, riverbanks, and village life painted with poetic warmth and elegance. Though his life was tragically cut short, his legacy endures through his expressive depictions of Haiti’s beauty and humanity.
