Description
This original 16"x12" oil on canvas by Haitian impressionist painter Fritz Louizor (1949–1984) captures a lively marketplace scene filled with figures engaged in the rhythm of daily trade. Women in colorful attire gather around baskets of produce, their gestures and stances animated with warmth and authenticity. Louizor’s use of palette knife impasto creates texture and light, turning an ordinary village day into a symphony of color and movement. A graduate of the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince, Louizor developed a distinctive impressionist style under the guidance of his brother, Ernst Louizor. His paintings celebrate the dignity and harmony of Haitian life, rendered with emotion and painterly precision. This artwork comes from a prestigious private collection in the Dominican Republic and remains unframed and in excellent condition. Upon purchase, Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery will issue a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). A classic example of Louizor’s mastery, Market Day reflects his love for community and his enduring contribution to modern Haitian art.
