Philippe Vieux (born 1932, Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a distinguished Haitian painter known for his refined and introspective approach to modern Haitian art. Educated at Collège Jean Jacques Dessalines and Collège de Port-au-Prince, Vieux began his artistic journey at the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince, where his first watercolor exhibition attracted early acclaim. Encouraged by mentors Dewitt Peters and Francine Murat, Vieux transitioned from watercolor to oil painting, developing a style marked by elegance, balance, and quiet emotional depth. His work often reflects influences from theatre, classical music, and literature—each canvas revealing a contemplative harmony that captures the cultural richness of Haiti. Today, Philippe Vieux is recognized among the voices of Haitian art, contributing to the country’s enduring artistic legacy with works that celebrate discipline, grace, and individuality.
