Description

This dynamic oil painting by Haitian master Préféte Duffaut depicts a powerful Vodou ritual scene rich in symbolic imagery. At the center, a female figure balances a vessel from which a stream of water rises toward a radiant star above, suggesting spiritual connection and transformation. Surrounding the figure are ceremonial fires, serpents, ritual objects, and symbolic forms that evoke the sacred atmosphere of Haitian Vodou practice. Duffaut’s imaginative composition combines dramatic architectural forms, ritual symbolism, and vibrant color to create a scene that feels both mystical and theatrical. These elements reflect themes of spiritual protection, sacrifice, and divine presence within Haitian Vodou tradition. A leading figure associated with the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince, Duffaut is internationally recognized for his visionary imagination and narrative compositions. This painting represents a compelling example of his symbolic storytelling and imaginative approach to Haitian spiritual themes. A striking and culturally rich work by one of Haiti’s most important modern painters. A certificate of authenticity will be issued by Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery.
