Paul Claude Gardère was born in 1944 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and passed away in 2011 in New York City. His work, deeply influenced by his Haitian roots, is also shaped by modern trends, as noted by art critic Gerald Alexis in his book Peintres Haitiens.
