Collection: Philippe Vieux (Haitian, 1932-?)
Philippe Vieux, born in 1932 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is a distinguished figure in Haitian art. Educated at Collège Jean Jacques Dessalines and Collège de Port-au-Prince, Vieux began his artistic path early, exchanging his love of dance for a lifelong dedication to painting. His first watercolor exhibition at the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince drew the attention of collectors and marked the beginning of a promising career. Guided by Dewitt Peters and Francine Murat, he transitioned to oil painting, developing a refined and contemplative style that reflects both discipline and emotional depth. Deeply influenced by theatre, classical music, and literature, Vieux paints with quiet sophistication and an eye for harmony. His works capture the elegance and cultural richness of Haiti’s artistic legacy, securing his place among the country’s most thoughtful and enduring painters.
