Description
Description
Joseph Jean-Gilles fills this canvas with an extraordinary density of figures, hundreds of market goers in patterned hats and clothing, winding down a hillside path with baskets of fruit and goods balanced on their heads. The composition unfolds across terraced farmland dotted with small thatched structures, the crowd growing thicker toward the foreground before opening onto banana and cane plants at the base of the scene. The scale and repetition of figures reflect Jean-Gilles' distinctive approach to depicting communal life and market days in rural Haiti. This piece comes from a private collection in Florida and is in good condition. We will provide a Certificate of Authenticity.
