Description
"Beyond the Horizon" is a 2026 acrylic on canvas by Philippe Dodard, built from the angular, architectonic compositions that define his work. Two abstracted faces emerge from a warm field of gold, orange, and rust, their features broken into overlapping planes and framed by loosely gestured, mask like forms above. Layered impasto and expressive linework give the surface a raw, textured intensity, while the fractured geometry organizes the composition without conventional perspective, a hallmark of Dodard's visual language. The work is signed and dated by the artist in the lower right, "Dodard 26."
Dodard, born in Port-au-Prince in 1954, began his career as an advertising illustrator before studying at the PotoMitan Art School alongside Jean-Claude "Tiga" Garoute, Patrick Vilaire, and Frido Casimir, and later entering the Academy of Fine Arts. A 1978 scholarship took him to the International School in Bordeaux, France, where he specialized in graphic design, and his practice has since expanded into large scale sculpture, ironwork, and jewelry design. His imagery has crossed into fashion and museum contexts, notably inspiring designer Donna Karan's Spring 2012 collection, and his work has been exhibited throughout Europe and the Americas as one of contemporary Haitian art's leading figures.
The painting is unframed and presented in excellent condition. A certificate of authenticity from Myriam Nader Art Gallery is included.
