Collection: André Pierre (Haitian, 1914-2005)

Self-taught Haitian master painter André Pierre was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1914 and passed away in 2005. Widely regarded as one of Haiti’s greatest artists, he is celebrated as the pre-eminent painter of the Haitian spirits and is often considered the worthy successor to Hector Hyppolite. His work stands at the heart of Haitian religious and naïve art. Pierre’s paintings have been reproduced extensively in major books on Haitian, naïve, and Vodou-inspired art. His depictions of the loas (Vodou spirits) are renowned for their authenticity, spiritual power, and symbolic richness. In Peintres Haïtiens, art historian Gérald Alexis notes that Pierre “injects rhythms into his works through lines and colors,” capturing the dynamic energy and sacred movement of Vodou traditions. Get the Book "Peintres Haitiens" Now!Scroll Down to Make Your Selection (s)!
